About Mya Leonardo
Mya Leonardo is the former Miss Freetown's Outstanding Teen 2020 and the former Miss Quequechan's Outstanding Teen 2019. Her previous social impact initiative within the Miss America Organization was Best Buddies, a national non-profit organization that focuses on helping those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities find a voice. Mya brought Best Buddies to her high school and was the chapter President for her school's chapter. She is also a community ambassador for Best Buddies in Massachusetts. She focuses on inclusion and ensuring her peers have an exciting high school experience that they will never forget about. Best Buddies has led her to "Empower," the workshop and site that Mya has created to build a safe place for others who might need advice, a boost of confidence, positive posts, or help feeling included. We are all working together to create a better place for everyone!!!
Mya is a constant volunteer in her community and wants to help as many people as possible in her life. She has logged in more than 400 hours of community service at various local organizations in the South Coast area! "Empower" allows her to share her own personal stories about bullying, insecurities, and sports related injuries. She tore her ACL and meniscus when she was 14 then re-tore her meniscus during a tragic accident and has grown mentally and physically since then. Her experience with her first injury made her second meniscus tear easier to handle because of the tips and tricks she used to continue moving forward with a positive mindset!
